SCIENTISTS NOW THINK THAT BEING OVERWEIGHT CAN PROTECT YOUR HEALTH       Like many of the nutrition/body weight/health articles or studies I read that come from the science or medical community, all this article does is beg further questions and demonstrate (at least to me) that the BMI (Body Mass Index) is nonsense.  In fact I’ll offer my own prediction:  In the not too distant future a “scientific” study will be released that will assert that the Body Mass Index, as we now understand it, will be deemed unreliable at best and complete bovine scatology (google it) at worse.

We know of numerous cases where friends have gone to the doctor’s office for one reason or another and were told that they were “obese” according to the Body Mass Index.  I’m talking about folks who work out and eat well, but aren’t “skinny”.  These people were all in good shape and good health.  They just didn’t fit the criteria of the BMI Table.  The BMI Table takes your height and weight and assigns it a BMI number.  At 5’7″, 162 lbs. I am considered overweight.  The BMI does not take into account your bodyfat percentage nor does it take into account your activity level, diet or workout routine.

So when those conducting the study say that being “overweight” can protect your health, it’s quite possible that they are actually talking about people that are in “good shape” by every standard EXCEPT the BMI Table.  What good is that?

No good.—George
