CROSSFIT SUFFOLK: Powered By SPARTAN PERFORMANCE

It’s that time of the year….on Sunday, January 19th, our very own John M. will be swimming 3.1 miles in Tampa Bay, Florida in the 5th Annual Tampa Bay Frogman Swim to raise funds for a great cause!

5K Open Water Swim and Fundraiser in support of the Navy SEAL Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non profit ranked by Charity Navigator as one of the top charities in the nation.

As this is a charity event to benefit the families of wounded or fallen Navy SEALs, swimmers are asked to participate in fundraising. While $1000 is the ideal fundraising GOAL per swimmer, we appreciate any and all efforts our participants achieve in helping us reach this year’s total fundraising goal of $275,000.  We realize that not everyone can reach this personal commitment, and do not wish to discourage participation, but you may be taking the slot of a swimmer who has every intention of meeting or exceeding that goal.  Please remember, this is more than just a swim. Fundraising can be done via our imathlete.com page, collecting donations personally or through the “Donate” button on our home page. Please visit www.navysealfoundation.org to learn more about this very special cause.”

John’s goal is to raise $1000.00 to help the families of our nation’s men from the Navy SEAL community.  Please help John out with this very noble cause.  Click here: John’s 2014 Navy Frogman Swim Donation Page

THE BEST KEPT SECRET: WHY PEOPLE HAVE TO SQUAT DIFFERENTLY

We constantly get asked (or told!) about squatting with the toes pointing completely straight and doing so with a narrow stance.  Our stock answer is “everybody is different and your stance will largely be determined by how your femurs “sit” in your hip sockets.”   Now CrossFitting, Chiropractor, Ryan DeBell, from The Movement Fix, comes along with the above photo-analysis of why people squat differently.  Brilliant!  Now you can “see” what we’re talking about.—George

SERIOUSLY, US NEWS?                 “The worst part is that the criticism of Paleo that gets repeated over and over is that “by shunning dairy and grains, you’re at risk of missing out on a lot of nutrients,” or that “diets that restrict entire food groups are difficult to follow,” or that its too expensive because “the produce section and meat counter are among the priciest corners of the grocery store.” Yes, eating healthier is more difficult than eating garbage, and more expensive as well. And since when did humans need grains and dairy to get the nutrients they need? (As an aside, I believe full fat, organic (even raw) dairy products are healthy. But we know that’s not the kind of dairy these folks are talking about.) Can these “experts” please tell me one nutrient – just one – that you can’t get without consuming grains?“—Laura Schoenfeld, Ancestralize Me!
