SI Joint Dysfunction

Dean Somerset explains the Sacroiliac Joint, how it works, what causes dysfunction and how to rehab it.  Athletes should be aware of the SI joint because as Somerset explains, "Conservative estimates put the occurrence of SI joint pain at around 10-27% of all back pain sufferers, which means there are millions of people walking around with this little bugger giving them grief."

I've had issues with my SI Joint but learned about it from a chiropractor.  Now I'm able to tell when my SI Joint is out of proper alignment.  It is helpful when you can go to a chiropractor and tell him your SI Joint is out.  After making sure that is in fact the case it's relatively easy for the chiropractor to get the joint back where it belongs.  As Somerset states, most people with a misaligned SI Joint will interpret it as lower back pain.  It is and it isn't.  Being aware of the actual problem and knowing enough to direct your chiropractor goes a long way in speeding up the correcting process.—-George
