Women Can't Do Pull Ups? Not So Fast    "Regardless of what science or physics say, with enough training, determination and positive thinking, women can do pull ups."Smithsonian.com

When considering the idea that women cannot do pull-ups two things immediately come to mind.  One, the visual that's burned in my mind of my wife doing a seemingly endless amount of chest-to-bar pull-ups with a weighted vest and, two, the Mary Kay Ash quote:

"Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn't know it so it goes on flying anyway."

When men and women believe they can do a pull-up and work at with consistency they are successful.  When men or women believe they cannot do a pull-up they often won't make a committed attempt to do one creating the self-fulfilling prophecy.

By the way, the bumblebee thing was once common folklore.  Scientists have proven that bumblebees should, in fact, be able to fly. So I figure in 20-30 years scientists will find that women can do pull-ups.  Maybe some day a training methodology will come along that achieves great success in getting women to do pull-ups.  Maybe some day the scientists will figure out that the methodology already exists.  Maybe.

Our friend and CrossFitting photographer, Shaun Cleary, of Super Cleary Photo, has put together this montage as a tribute to The New York Times article that asserts women cannot do pull-ups.  Good job, as usual, Shaun!

Do you know who is absent from the above photos???

Tara Parker-Pope,  "health" writer for The New York Times.
Coincidence??   I think not!—George

  1. My candid thoughts: (excuse “the French”) This woman is just another fucking idiot blathering and espousing nonsense. Hey Tara Parker-Pope, go take a hike you fool- she probably won’t though… if she did she might think it was too hard and she’d be prompted to write “Why women can’t hike.” Mrs. Parker-Pope, please disappear into obscurity.

I am literally laughing out loud right now!! Tara does not look very healthy from her pic……hmmmmmmshe prob doesn’t even attempt to work out just judges everyone and doesn’t look into the real truth. She gave up on wo en in her article……as a woman you think she would want to disprove the findings. Ugh!!
