A nice young lady ventured into Spartan Performance for an Introduction session yesterday.  We got to speaking about her training goals so I asked a series of questions to really drill down what her goals are.  She focused on appearance not performance.  Just to draw a clear picture I asked her to tell me which famous woman she'd like to resemble, body type, not face.  Her reply, "Cameron Diaz, but not her big arms."

Personally, I can't say I'm a big Cameron Diaz fan.  I have nothing against her, mind you.  Just not a I-have-to-see-this-movie-Cameron Diaz-is-in-it type fan.  I never considered Cameron Diaz to have "big" or "ripped" arms.   Lo and behold we found this article, Cameron Diaz Morphs Into Madonna. Why?   Just in case you don't click on the article here's the photo of Cameron Diaz:

I instantly made a couple of observations:

1) Cameron Diaz has nicely developed arms.  Her arms look good from my perspective.  I'm guessing most of the women I coach would agree with me.  I could be wrong, but it's been soooo long since I've been wrong….about anything.

2) Not bad, but she could use a tattoo.

Seriously, I believe women, like men, should train with performance as their focus.  Let the improvements in your appearance be a byproduct of your training. Be strong and fit physically and mentally and you won't have to concern yourself whether you are "toned" or not.

The women shown below are strong and fit, and they're also moms and only one of them is under 40!  They constantly improve upon their own performance…that means they strive to lift heavier, run faster and do more work in a faster period of time, every time they train.

Dana– Thanks for the kind words!
Dan–Don’t know what you mean…there is no joking and no fun when we train. We’re all business…except when we’re not.

Yay Spartan moms!!! Performance should be the goal…….that’s what gets the body to look the way we want it. What a reward to see the benefits of reaching your training goals…..it shows everywhere!! Especially mentally!

Thank you George & Lisa for reminding me how hard we all worked to achieve our strong bodies! As my favorite tee reads, “There is nothing cooler than a strong mom”!
