Classic Kids Games Like Kickball Deemed Unsafe By State In Effort To Increase Summer Camp Regulation

"That's right, officials have decided the age-old street game – along with Wiffle Ball, kickball and dodgeball – poses a "significant risk of injury."-Glenn Blain, Daily News

Let me start off my comments by saying the State is backing off this regulation

The idea of the government regulating these activities is obviously ludicrous, but more importantly it's a sign of the times.  Let us not forget that the same legislators who came up with the idea that children's games require government regulation are the same folks who will come up with or have come up with regulations that will impact your life.

Americans are losing more and more freedom as time passes and it's almost never reported or spoken about.  New York is the most regulated, most taxed state in the country.  This is to say New York is the least free state in the country.

While reading the above article we wondered how the regulation was even entertained as a proposal, then we read the last quote of Glenn Blain's article:

While many New Yorkers scoffed at the idea of tag leading to traumatic brain or spinal injury, Bronx resident Kim Wainwright said it's better to be safe than sorry.

"Kids these days are kinda brutal so I can see those games being dangerous," said Wainwright, who has a 5-year-old. "I agree with it."

If a reporter was able to find one person who thought this regulation was a good idea then there are probably others not interviewed who would agree.  We wonder what the future will be like when we have citizens who believe the government should keep their children safe from games that were once played in school yards across America.

America.  The land of the free and the home of the brave.

Regulate what games are allowed to be played at summer camps? Crazy!! If the camps hire the best and most qualified candidates and they set rules and abide by those safety rules there is already much less of a risk of injury. As a physical education teacher I can say that besides the freak accident the only time most kids get hurt is if they are fooling around. The supervisor of the kids needs to let the children know that safety is a priority and if the “nonsense” is addressed each time a child acts unsafe the kids act out less and less becuase they want more time to play. They begin to realize that they are wasting time when someone acts out and the teacher reminds them each time of safety. All they really want to do is play and have fun. I couldn’t even imagine a list of games and activities that I wasn’t able to do with my children. Isn’t camp supposed to be fun?
