Debunking Jason Alexander's Gun Myths     "…….there are wolves among us. Pulling the teeth of the sheepdogs will do nothing to protect the sheep. Statistics show that we live in a very violent society, but that violence has nothing to do with the implements used to achieve that violence. Until we can transform our society into one that has more respect for human life and human dignity, the best we can do is allow the sheepdogs among us to stand in defiance of the wolves. We’ll never be able to do that if every time a wolf steals a sheep, we de-fang the dog."Jeremy Choate for Breitbart

The Sheepdog: The Only Legitimate Solution

By George Demetriou

You'll notice in the above article, Debunking Jason Alexander's Gun Myths by Jeremy Choate he refers to the "good guys" as sheepdogs.  The concept of humans being assigned to one of the following animals, sheep, wolves or sheepdogs is based on the role the individual plays in society.  The concept was introduced to the public by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman and you can read about the deeper meaning in the article, On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs, excerpted from his book, On Combat.

Basically, the sheep are most people in society(good people that are non-violent), the wolves are the violent sociopaths and the sheepdogs are the people who have the capacity for violence but have love for "the flock" and will therefore use violence to protect the sheep from the wolves.

In the days following the movie theater murders in Aurora, Colorado I have read, heard on the radio and watched on the television, the opinions of politicians, commentators and regular folk, how we should handle future violence of this sort.  Naturally, much of the comments are focused on gun control.  The gun control advocates share common traits: They believe that if there were no guns there would be no mass killings, they believe it is possible to remove all guns from society and they DON'T believe that evil exists in the world, but if it does surely it is completely "owned" by gun-owning, politically conservative people.

Gun control, no matter how restrictive it could become, will NEVER be the answer to incidents like the one in Colorado. For the sake of brevity I will not site all the material available to make my point, but I will narrowly focus on a few incidents.

Gun Control is far more restrictive in other part of the world.  Places such as Britain, Australia, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Norway and Belgium have had mass murders in the last decade.  The worst event was just over a year ago in Norway where Anders Behring Breivik shot and killed 69 children at a youth summer camp.  Breivik used an explosive device to kill 8 people in a separate attack on the same day.  If gun control doesn't work in these countries it isn't going to work anywhere.

No guns, no violence, right?  Surely in the super-restictive-can't-obtain-a-gun country of Japan there's no such thing as mass murder or violence, right?

Wrong!

On June 8th 2001 Mamoru Takuma walked into an elementary school armed with a kitchen knife and killed 8 children, between the ages of 7 and 8, and wounded 13 other children as well as 2 teachers.

Exactly seven years later Tomohiro Kato killed 7 people and injured 10.  Mr. Kato killed 3 by running them over with a truck and killed 4 by stabbing them.

How about the weapon of choice for the September 11th terrorists?  The $1.59 box cutter.

The point I'm making is while the majority of people in the world are good, or at least not violent, there exists those who will resort to violence because they are evil.  The criminals that exist in all parts of the world don't care about gun control laws because they don't care about any laws.  More importantly they don't care about you.  If we successfully removed all guns from the planet there would be a segment of society that would commit horrible acts of violence with knives, hammers, screwdrivers, explosive devices, chemicals, poison, and whatever else their twisted imagination can come up with.

The only viable solution is the one most people have little faith in and most people don't want to discuss: the Sheepdog.  The person in the crowd who is not only armed, but trained and willing to run toward the sound of gunfire, willing to go into harm's way and willing to engage the threat.  The Sheepdog usually refers to a person from the military or law enforcement community, but it doesn't have to be.  The Sheepdog needs to have a personal capacity for violence and the wisdom to only use it for the protection of himself or others.  The Sheepdog is more effective than any law and more practical than any proposal you're going to hear regarding this issue.

Consider your options and the role you'll play if violence is visited upon you.  Not choosing is NOT an option.  Coming up with your own "animal" is not an option.

What's it going to be?

    Dan–Thanks Sheepdog!
Melissa–Mayor Bloomberg enjoys the luxury of having a team of police officers assigned to his security 24 hours a day, but he has the arrogance to believe you should not be allowed to protect yourself.
The Mayor, like most Liberals, doesn’t let facts get in the way of his decision making. His anti-gun stance is based upon emotion and not truth.
Unfortunately most politicians have no understanding of the dynamics of violent confrontations.

  2. A gun does not possess a cognitive apparatus. It is an inanimate object. A gun is mearly an instrument used to kill or harm others. The real culprit is the PERSON, or more specifically the perversion of that person’s mind/morality. Or we can just ban guns… and while we’re at it we can say “lets ban eating utensils too, they can kill people.” Or how bout those dreaded sticks… ban sticks. Sticks, those motherfucking sticks are always killing people. (sarcasm ofcourse).Listen how insane these people sound. How bout we maximize freedom and let criminals worry about what will happen to THEM in THEIR INITIATED criminal act. Draw a gun in a criminal act, be prepared to die. I would sleep like a baby knowing I took a fucking sociopath scumbag off the streets. There are those who might interpret me a radical, so be it. I may be neurotic, but unprepared or oblivious no… I’ll leave you all with a quote from Ayn Rand that sums up George’s point very well.
“When a man attempts to deal with me by force, I answer him by force.”
YEAH GEORGE! (Jane will read this and in her head it’ll be in my voice)
