It is upon us!

Today is the Friday-Before-Black-Friday or the Start-Of-The-Weekend-Before-Thanksgiving-Week.  It's the time of the year when the priority, for some more than others, is to eat less than optimal food and drink less than optimal drinks.  "Less than optimal" for performance, maintaining health and weight management, that is.  It wouldn't be so bad if it were only this week.  Many people extend this week into sometime after New Year's Day though.  It's often difficult for those who give in to the "Season" to stay motivated to workout.

Why not take a different approach this year?

How about limiting the "Less-Than-Optimal" food consumption, limit the drinking of adult beverages and continue to train as if your life depended on it.  Why not stay strong through the holidays instead of letting your guard–and your performance down?   Why not come into the New Year well conditioned instead of deconditioned?

For many, this time of the year is joyous and stressful and it's going to be even more stressful than usual in our parts because of the effects of Super Storm Sandy.  Stress has a unique way of sapping, otherwise well adjusted, folks of vital energy.  The stress and lack of energy can lead to not being motivated.  Not being motivated leads to making excuses for not training.  Not training leads to a build up of stress.  Not training combined with more than usual drinking and overeating that delicious food associated with the holidays leads to lethargy, deconditioning, weakness and fat around your stomach, thighs and posterior.

See where I'm going with this?

AVOID BEING WEAK, DECONDITIONED, and UNMOTIVATED FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Enjoy yourself.  Enjoy the spirit of the holidays.  Enjoy your family or the company you keep.  Eat. Drink. Be merry. Be thankful.  Do all this while you continue to train. Continue to be strong and fit.  Continue to be prepared.  Continue to feel good and look good.

It isn't necessary to abuse or damage your body in the name of "celebrating".  Your body is the greatest instrument you'll ever own.  Take care of it, challenge it, exercise it and be good to it!—George

Light At Night May Lead To Depression, Brain Functioning Problems: Study   "Researchers from Johns Hopkins University found that being exposed to
bright lights for long periods of time — whether it's from a screen, or
even from just having the lights on in your bedroom or in the office if
you're doing shift work — is linked with higher levels of the stress
hormone cortisol, which could eventually lead to problems with brain
functioning and even depression."
