The Boy With A Thorn In His Joints

Interesting NY Times article by Susannah Meadows.  Meadow's 3 year old son was diagnosed with "juvenile idiopathic arthritis (J.I.A.), an autoimmune disease that causes painful swelling in the joints. J.I.A. can lead to stunted growth, disability and, rarely, blindness."

The story is interesting because medical doctors and medication couldn't heal the boy, and in fact, seemed to make his condition worse.  By a stroke of luck, Meadow's sister had a friend who cured her own son of a similar condition.  Without mentioning a formal name of the diet, the 3 year old was placed on a Paleo-like diet where gluten and dairy were removed.  Surprise, surprise–the boy got better!

At one point medical doctors still wanted the boy on a medication protocol–even though it was making him worse.  Doctors, by and large, don't seem to understand the fact that there are foods recommended in the Standard American Diet that are making people sick and that there is a better way of eating that is making or keeping people healthy.

More and more real life episodes, such as the one in the above article, are being reported.  The Paleo/Primal way of eating is becoming more popular.  The popularity isn't because it's the latest fad, but because of the positive results regular folks are finding, the former chonically ill are finding and serious athletes are finding.—George
