Older People Become What They Think     "All of us have beliefs — many of them subconscious, dating back to
childhood — about what it means to get older. Psychologists call these
“age stereotypes.” And, it turns out, they can have an important effect
on seniors’ health."
Judith Graham, NY Times

Note:  I re-posted the above article not only for the older folks, but for everyone because the key phrase in the article is right there in the first sentence: All of us have beliefs-many of them subconscious, dating back to childhood…..

Those beliefs aren't limited to what it's like to be old, but what it's like to be right now.  I hear things like: I eat well and workout, but I don't lose weight, or, I have no upper body strength, or, I have no endurance or some other limiting belief that usually is based on nothing or something completely false.  What gives these beliefs power is the subconscious mind.  The subconscious mind, according to hypnotist Stephen Parkhill, is the most powerful goal-achieving agency known to man.  The subconscious mind will do everything in its power to achieve the goals that you program.

The take home message is this:  Be aware of the power of your beliefs.  Be aware of the things you tell yourself.  Be aware of those quiet conversations you have with yourself.  You can program positive information or negative information.  They both take the same amount of energy and the subconscious mind doesn't care which you choose.

You may want to take inventory of your beliefs and modify some and completely drop others.  Everything you do is based on your personal belief system.  My suggestion is to trash the beliefs that are working against you (especially those false ones from childhood) and strengthen the ones that are working for you.—George
