EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROPER HYDRATION (AND SOME STUFF YOU PROBABLY DON’T)

The purpose of this article is to outline how to best hydrate during any sort of extended physical activity, and how to NOT approach hydration. While drinking enough water may be a simple enough goal during short runs, a much more in depth plan is needed when performance over an extended duration in the heat is the goal.”—Alex Viada,  Complete Human Performance

    George,
Some interesting reads from Viada the past few days. I’m waiting for Jade to comment. And what about Kobe where has he been, isn’t he the poster child for ” how to get the right nutrition from eating all the shit they say is bad for you ” I mean that dude is freakish.

Thanks for the article George, that will come in handy for my training in August and September. I enjoy the way the author gives you the information that he bases his conclusions on even if it can be a bit verbose.

Kelly–Lisa experimented with Pedialyte for hydration years ago. What was the missing ingredient for us was mixing the BCAAs with the Pedialyte.

Jason–They say when a woman’s shirt matches your lifting shoes the woman will make for a good wife. I read it somewhere. I wrote it then I read it.

Yes, I find Viada interesting. He is obviously educated on what he speaks and he is a big dude for someone into endurance races. If he was 145 lbs. and into powerlifting and endurance events I wouldn’t find him as interesting.

John–Jade commented on Saturday’s blog. She did so late so you didn’t see it. Kobe has been MIA on the comments lately. I understand he gave up fast food for lent.

Ben–I appreciate that Viada explains in great detail. Many in the field of strength, conditioning and nutrition offer their opinion and never explain what they are basing their information on. You can always zip past the science and sources if you want, but at least it’s there if you are interested in reading it.

Wendy used pedialyte during her difficult times being sick; she found pedialyte popsicles which she preferred!! Mixing it with BCAA, hmm that sounds interesting. I might try that this summer

Remember: The pedialyte/BCAA mix is for longer endurance events. You don’t need it for a 15 minute AMRAP. You probably don’t need it for any of our workouts except, maybe, “Murph” on a hot day.
