(Thanks to Cathy for the tip about the Dezy Story Documentary!)

Matt “Dezy” Distefano is a husband, a father, a teacher in Holbrook and resident of Holbrook. “Dezy” has stage IV cancer that has spread throughout his body. Working out is part of Dezy’s routine. As a coach and a gym owner I’ve become accustomed to hearing a myriad of reasons why otherwise healthy people “can’t” work out. Dezy has come up with a slogan that displays his gratitude. This gratitude not only offers a different perspective on the will and ability to workout but it is refreshing to hear.as well When Matt “Dezy” Distefano is asked why he trains with such passion his answer is, “I don’t have to work out. I GET to work out.”

We only get one vessel better known as our body. We are obligated to maintain our body and work toward making it stronger. Dezy is showing us that knowing you’re on borrowed time isn’t a reason not to be the best possible version of yourself.

Dezy has chosen the perfect profession as an educator. He is in the process of offering his greatest lesson. Like all good teachers he is forcing us to think. He is motivating us to action. Like all great teachers he is providing an example we can observe and model. If you only had a short time to live how would you spend your time? How would you direct your thoughts and attitude? What would you do? What is stopping you from doing these things now?

The documentary is 21 minutes long. It’s worth your time. Need some inspiration or if you know somebody who does, watch or forward this video. I dare you not to be inspired.—George

Thank you Cathy for sharing that with George. The impact Coach Dezy has made on our community and our children is just amazing. To see so many people support him every day, but especially yesterday, was incredible. So when we get a challenge in life, let’s remember that We Get to take it on. Thank you Coach Dezy for the life lesson you have taught so many of us.
