This Saturday we will be making history by following the normally scheduled sessions with Jon Belmonte’s presentation of FIT CHICKS,  where Jon will address some of the issues that affect women in terms of movement and core strength, an a few short hours later we will be having our annual party.  The party will start at 8pm.  Let us know if you have questions.  There are still a few openings left for the FIT CHICK seminar.  Contact me or Jon if you’re interested in attending.

FIT CHICKS SEMINAR

SATURDAY, FEB 22 2PM (AFTER LAST CLASS)

Presented by  Jon Belmonte, Doctor of Physical Therapy and owner of Max Effort Physical Therapy

THAT’S RIGHT!! LADIES ONLY!!

AFTER TALKING TO MANY OF OUR FEMALE MEMBERS I BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS OUT THERE.

THE MALE AND FEMALE BODY EACH HAVE 206 BONES, ABOUT 700 MUSCLES, AND SHARE 97% OF THE SAME GENETIC MATERIAL.  I KNOW ANYONE WHO IS STILL READING THIS ALREADY KNOWS THAT THE 3% ACCOUNTS FOR ABOUT 1 MILLION DIFFERENCES, AND GENETICISTS AGREE.

FROM HORMONES TO SOCIAL NORMS THE GENDERS COULDN’T BE MORE DIFFERENT WITHOUT EXCEPTION TO HEALTH AND FITNESS.  THIS SEMINAR IS DEDICATED TO EDUCATE WOMEN ABOUT THEIR BODY AS IT RELATES TO EVERYDAY LIFE AND OF COURSE CROSSFIT!!!

WE WILL DISCUSS:

·        ANATOMICAL STRUCTURE AND BODY COMPOSITION

·        POSTURE AND JOINT MOVEMENT

·        MUSCLE ACTIVATION AND ACTIVATION DEFICIENCIES

·        CORE AND STABILITY CORRECTION

·        Q&A (ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE)

This seminar is only $25/person and holds all the information you’re looking for in one easy to learn session.

BE A GOOD GYM MEMBER: SAFETY, RESPECT AND TAKING CARE OF EQUIPMENT

The way you treat the equipment in your gym says a lot about you, not just as an athlete, but as a person. Whether or not you know it, you’re being judged, and if it’s by me, it’s probably harshly.”—Greg Everett, Catalyst Athletics

[Note: I’ve been meaning to write this article/list myself so I was very pleased to see that Greg Everett of Catalyst Athletics beat me to it.  FEAR NOT gentle reader I will be adding to this in the near future.  Be prepared!  I will be addressing things that Everett did not include–things that defy logic and common sense–so that they are never repeated.  We will go beyond the scope of equipment and enter the world of human behavior.  Stay tuned!]–George

HOW TO BUILD A SUPER SOLID KETTLEBELL SNATCH (and AVOID THE DREADED SMACK)

In essence, you catch the bell with the back of your forearm rather than get hit on the back of the forearm. The key to this movement is to shoot your hand through the handle. The action will look like a little kid shooting their hand into the air to ask a question in class.“—Andrew Read for Breaking Muscle

Workout of the Day
5 rounds for time of:
3 kettlebell push jerks, each arm 24/16kg
7 knees to elbows
15 Russian kettlebell sings

Post your scores to the Whiteboard.

Good article George on respecting the box!
Are you sure you didn’t write it or assist bc there are many parts that sounded like you?
& I am always getting a good bruise from the kettlebell snatch.
    Thanks

No Kelly, I had no hand in the article. I never met Greg Everett but have been reading his stuff for a few years. Everett is sarcastic, but his California sarcasm is no match for my New York sarcasm. I thought Greg was very civil. When I follow up with my own blog post some people will be traumatized and reduced to tears.

    John,

The Russian singing went fantastically! I wish you could have heard the angelic sound of everyone working out and singing in harmony. It was truly beautiful!
