CROSSFIT SUFFOLK: Powered By SPARTAN PERFORMANCE

Several of us competed in the 2014 Northeast Masters Throwdown.  That’s right, Lisa, Mike D., John H., Alex S. and yours truly competed against other 40 year-old and up athletes at Shoreline CrossFit in Connecticut.  Lisa came in 5th out 8 women in the 45-47 year old division.  Lisa came in 3rd for the barbell complex we had to do for a 1-rep max.  (And she was the smallest female of all ages!)  Lisa did it with 125lbs.  John H. came in 10th out 24 in the 45-49 year old group.  John came in 7th for the barbell complex, with 215lbs.  Alex S. finished 28th out of 40 in the 40-44 year-old division, 7th in the barbell complex with 230lbs.  Mike D. finished 33rd in the 40-44 year-old division.  Mike did the complex with 175lbs.  I came in 14th out of 20 in the 50-54 year-old division, 8th in the complex with 180lbs.  For all results click HERE.

It’s always good to compete, but I really enjoyed watching other CrossFit Suffolk athletes compete.  Last year only Lisa and I represented, but this year we had a team!  And we had 8 supporters from our gym make the trek to Branford, Connecticut to cheer us on!

YEAH SPARTANS!

ATTENTION LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL AND LICENSED PISTOL OWNERS:

Chris Fry, our friend from Modern Defensive Training Systems is conducting several courses on Long Island at the end of the month and beginning of next month.  Chris is based upstate-NY, but travels to Long Island on occasion to train people who need a practical fighting system that includes any firearm and/or a knife.  We highly recommend Chris.  (Chris is also a CrossFitter, by the way!)  If you’re looking for training beyond what you received in the police academy or you’re a civilian firearm owner you need what Chris offers!  Here’s the MDTS Long Island schedule:

9 WAYS THAT PROCESSED FOOD MAKES THE WORLD SICK AND FAT

Processed foods are bad. They are the main reason why people all over the world are getting fat and sick.

How do we know? Every time a population adopts a “Western” diet high in processed foods, they get sick.

It happens within a few years. Their genes don’t change, their food does.“—Kris Gunnars, Business Insider

Workout of the Day
Strict press 1-1-1-1-1 reps
Push press 3-3-3-3-3 reps
Push Jerk 5-5-5-5-5 reps

There should be a clear distinction between the strict press (aka “press”, shoulder press, overhead press), the push press and the push jerk.  Make every effort to increase the weight as you go up in reps.

Post your scores to the Whiteboard.

Great job! Just a reminder, Kelly Chris and I are looking for one more guy to join our team for the frostbite games on 2/22. We are doing the scaled division.
