CROSSFIT SUFFOLK: Powered By SPARTAN PERFORMANCE

TODAY’S SCHEDULE:

6:30-7:30AM

9-10AM

10-11AM

CLOSED NEW YEAR’S DAY

Part of Brian’s job is to travel to far-off, hostile places.  Places where wearing a gas mask to do your job is sometimes necessary.  Wearing the mask during moments of physical exertion magnifies the discomfort.  One of the best ways to overcome the discomfort is by wearing the gas mask while training hard.

11 LESSONS FROM THE RUSSIANS         “Last week I had the opportunity to travel to California to attend the Dream Team Clinic (one of the perks of being on Team Juggernaut haha), featuring Dmitry Klokov (you may know him from YouTube), Ilya Ilyin (2x Olympic gold medalist and World Record holder), Vasiliy Polovnikov (9x Russian Champion) and Zygmunt Smalcerz (US OTC coach) at Waxman’s Gym.

This was a truly great experience to see such great athletes in action and to be able to be coached by them. I could go on for pages and pages about what I learned but here are 11 key points…“—Colin Burns for Juggernaut

(Note:  If you’d like to see what Colin Burns has written about check out this youtube video: Dmitry Klokov & Ilya Ilyin-CrossFit LIC

Be advised:  Dmitry and Ilya don’t speak very much English and the video is about 30 minutes long.  Not all of it is instructional.  That said, if you are a fan of weightlifting or strength you’ll enjoy sections of this video!  (Thanks Nick, for putting us on point about this video!))–George

    George,
you’ve been on fire with the articles lately, another awesome blog. What I think the difference between the Russians and us is they start very young just like we do with football, baseball etc. shit I didn’t start oly lifts until I was 43. You get out of it what you put into it, its just that simple.

John–I’m sure having weightlifting as part of the sport culture in Russia is a strong factor there. Another factor is the acceptance of PEDs in other parts of the world. Also, the Russians involved actual scientists in their sports training. The methodology developed by the Russian scientists are still being used and cited today.

    Tiffany–Feel better. Happy New Year!

    Nick and AllHappy New Year!

Beth–Now that you’re going to make your television appearance in a state of slight undress I think working out is far more important than your job. Just saying.

Tatyana–I see how it is. You finally decided to comment since I showcased some Russians on the website. Nice. Have a Happy New Year…Tatyana KLOKOV!

Happy new year all! This was a great WOD!
** I have to say that this picture George , has to be the best I’ve seen yet. It is so humbling! It actually made my heart stop, gave me a lump in my throat all day and when I was talking to Mike about it ( Brian’s brother ) I actually got really choked up. It got me thinking that this man is someone’s son, someone’s brother, someone’s friend, and a real hidden hero in our box!
I know in past comments I have said that you & Lisa are hidden gems, & after you telling us her experiences with 9-11, I know I commented that she is a hero amongst us. Well here’s another one. 🙂 We should all salute Brian & thank him everytime he walks in the door. Thanks to all our marines & all our military, especially now at the holidays. Much respect and appreciation for this photo.

    Kelly R.,

Thanks for your comment about Brian!

Brian and Mike are amongst the finest people I know and their mom is awesome too! I let her know that she did a fine job raising her sons. Lisa and I actually met Brian before he began serving our country and we have remained close ever since.
