10 MYTHS ABOUT OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTING THAT NEED TO STOP    By Dresdin Archibald for Breaking Muscle  (Dresdin Archibald is a 63-year-old accountant from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He started weight training in 1963 at age 14, moving over to the Olympic-lifts in 1966, and continues training to this day.)

THE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET OF THE FEMALE ATHLETE:  CELLULITE       “I bet you’re still wondering why some women – even thin, lean athletic women – tend to have lots of cellulite and their female counterparts do not. Genetics, my friend. If your connective tissue is put together differently than your friend’s, your skin is going to look different. Just like skin color, hair, and height are all genetically determined, so is your predisposition to cellulite. That’s right, Mother Nature decides if you are to be dimple free or not.

She must find the dimples cute because 85-98% of post-pubertal females have cellulite. Yes! That means almost all women have cellulite.

That’s a hard pill to swallow for a lot of us, including myself. Really? My cellulite is not my fault? These dimples don’t signal to the world that I’m a fatty? No. No. And No.“—Vanessa Bennington for Breaking Muscle

Workout of the Day
EMOM for 5 minutes:
Hang Power Clean @ 70% 1 rep max

EMOM means Every Minute On The Minute.  This portion of the workout is designed to prime your central nervous system for the next part of the workout, nothing more.

30 minutes to establish 1 rep max Back Squat

The back squat workout begins with performing low rep sets (1-5 reps) with an empty bar then progressively increasing the weight.  When the weight becomes challenging take at least 2 minutes in between squats, perform one back squat at a time.  Those squatting more than twice their body weight are advised to use a lifting belt.

Post your scores to the Whiteboard.

    George-
I am a mom of 3, I have fought & continue to fight the weight battle, I have recently crossed over into my late thirties! AND to read this article about how cellulite is genetic. It’s nice to read but I still hate it & I still hate stretch marks. But as a woman with kids-been overweight & our of twenties- my cellulite & stretch marks are my battle scars & I care WAY more about what I can do in the gym then how I look. Thanks for the article! See you later!
I may have shorts & sports bra on revealing my stretch marks and cellulite. ( just kidding it’s winter )

Never, and I mean EVER, was I involved in a conversation with any guy (or guys) and the topic of a woman’s cellulite or stretch marks come up! There are guys that will describe things that shouldn’t be described and those that pass judgment on a woman’s character or behavior, but never have I heard a man say anything to the effect of, “Nice girl—too bad she’s got cellulite.” I’ve never heard a man ask, “Did you see the cellulite on that woman?”. Men don’t care.

The first I heard of cellulite was when my wife, some years into our marriage, asked me if she had it. I responded with, “What the f**k are you talking about.” (Yes, I always sensitive.) She would then point to the back of her leg, look at me with terror in her eyes like those young girls in Friday The 13th movies when being chased by the goalie-mask wearing Jason, and scream, “IT’S RIGHT THERE”. To this day I’m not sure I saw anything, but she said it was there so I believe her.

My point is that two seconds later I was not thinking about it and the only time I ever thought about it again was when she brought it up.

Have I seen it on other women?

    Yes.

Did it affect me in any way?

    Not in the least.

I’ve seen women with stretch marks, scars on their face, and skin grafts. None of these things mattered. In fact I had forgotten I had seen such “blemishes” until these comments jogged my memory.

The people with real blemishes are the ones who are ugly on the inside. Their ugliness comes from their soul and manifests itself in some external form.

Being beautiful has nothing to do with having “perfect skin” or a “perfect body”.

    Beth,

I’m sorry to hear that in your misspent youth you adapted a diet of yo-yos. What could have lead you to eating a popular toy?

Now Ho-Hos, on the other hand, weren’t the healthiest choice, but boy did they taste good.

    HO-HOs not YO-YOs!!

  8. Michele Swerdlow

Believe me when I say there is probably no one more self-aware of their body than me. I’m just over the battle with how I look. It’s far more important how I feel. I feel great. Better than I ever have In a long long time. I work hard, I feel the results – that’s what counts. Cellulite? Whatever!
